Jack Norman Cardey, age 93, of Potosi, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster. He was born on August 30, 1922, in Potosi. Jack was married to Helen Louise Weller of Blue Rapids, Kansas, on October 6, 1945. They had three daughters: Cheryl, Leslie, and Sue Ann. Jack served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in Hawaii and played professional baseball for 15 years.
Survivors include his loving wife, Helen Cardey, Lancaster; two daughters: Cheryl (John) Abrams, Ames, IA; Leslie (Jack) Louthain, Sturgeon Bay; 7 grandsons; 14 great-grandchildren; his brothers: Keith Cardey, Napa, CA; Dennis (Lucette) Cardey, Apple Valley, MN; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Ann Cardey; a sister, Shirley Patzner; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Cardey.
Memorial services with military honors were held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi with Pastor Gordon Cunningham officiating. Private family burial was in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi Township. Family and friends called on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, donations may be made in Jack's memory to the Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi or the Potosi Rescue Squad. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Potosi is serving the family.
