Irvin Bernard Reuter, age 91, of Lancaster, passed away onSunday, December 14, 2014,at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster.
He was born on February 2, 1923, in Potosi, the son of George and Elizabeth (Glassmaker) Reuter. On May 10, 1948, Irvin married Elaine McKelvey at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tennyson.
He and Elaine lived most of their married life on the Becher farm south of Lancaster until 2006 when they moved to Lancaster. He was also the South Lancaster Assessor for 28 years. After retiring from farming he worked at Mega Foods and the Wonder Wash car wash in Lancaster. Irvin was a member of Branch 42 of the Catholic Knights for 83 years and received his Gold Rosary. After Elaine passed away in 2008, Irvin lived at Morningside Assisted Living Center in Lancaster and has resided for the past 5 years at Orchard Manor. Irvin enjoyed gardening, reading Western stories, doing word searches, and listening to the Cubs and the Packers.Most of all he enjoyed his visits from his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his seven children: Steve Reuter of Milwaukee, Gary (Barb Schneider) Reuter of Lancaster, Kay (Dave) Krohn of Madison, Sue Devine of Wisconsin Rapids, David (Deb Now) Reuter of Lancaster, Alan Reuter of Dubuque, IA and Marianne (Kevin) Klais of Fennimore; 12 grandchildren: Scott (Kate Mainville) Reuter and Angela (Steve) McLean, all of Lancaster, Jen (Travis) Higgins of Weston, Gina (Jason) Caldwell of Eau Claire, Matthew (Kathryn Sarnoski) Reuter of Wauwatosa, Andrew (Abby Johnson) Reuter of Stoughton, Michael Krohn of Boulder, CO and Katherine Krohn of Madison, Bethany, Marissa, Saralyn, and Trenten Klais, all of Fennimore; 8 great-grandchildren: Lexie, Julia and Jacob Higgins, Weston, Cayden Caldwell of Eau Claire, Wyatt and Maci McLean of Lancaster, and Austin and Isabella Reuter of Lancaster; his brother, Donald Reuter of Mesa, AZ, sisters: Eileen Reuter of Potosi and Ruth Cox of Dubuque, IA; brother and sisters-in-law, Don and Mary McKelvey of Lancaster and Donna Mae Reuter of Dickeyville; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elaine; his brother, Francis; sisters-in-law, Bernadette Reuter and Marion (McKelvey) Stuer; and brothers-in-law, Don Cox and John Stuer.
Funeral services were held onSaturday, December 20, 2014, at 12:00 noon at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with FatherJohn Sasse officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called after 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster is serving the family.
