Irma M. Millin, age 90, of Lancaster, went to meet her Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Morningside Assisted Living in Lancaster. She was born on December 5, 1919, in Glen Haven, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Hoffman) Hess. On January 13, 1944, Irma was united in marriage to Donald Y. Millin in Sioux Falls, SD. Irma farmed with her husband for several years before moving to Lancaster in 1955. She worked as a housekeeper for many families and professional businesses in Lancaster for many years. She also worked for the Lancaster Memorial Hospital and Orchard Manor for fifteen years. Irma strived to help provide for her family to the best of her ability. She enjoyed doing various activities, including volunteering at News and Views, quilting, visiting friends, bowling in her younger years, and enjoying a good fish fry on Friday nights. Irma greatly enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Judith (James) Burbach, Kieler; her son, Michael D. Millin, Thornton, CO; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Millin, Mountain Top, PA; eight grandchildren: Lisa (Jeff) Kurt, Farley, IA; Kim (Mike) Kraus, Cuba City; Angie Burbach, Platteville; Sandy (Eric) Small, Dubuque, IA; Christopher (Jen) Teer, New Freedom, PA; Shanda (Bobby) Opsitos, Jr., Felton, PA; Randi (Seth) Robinson, Henryville, PA; Jazmine Millin, Boulder, CO; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Mildred Dietrich, Cassville; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Hess, Lancaster and Phyllis Millin, Tomah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Irma was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Donald; a son, Randy, and her siblings, Arthur Hess, Armella Laufenberg, two nephews, six brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 13, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Thursday, May 13, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.
The family would like to thank Dr. White of Medical Associates, Dr. David Ringold of Tristate Dialysis, the staff at Morningside Assisted Living, and the nurses and volunteers of Grant County Hospice. Thank you all for the great care and compassion you showed to our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Your care and concern was greatly appreciated.
