Irene R. Osterhaus, age 95, of Bloomington, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015, at her daughter's home in Waukesha after a prolonged illness. Irene was born on January 9, 1920 in Bloomington, to Frank & Clementine (Herbers) Bohnenkamp. She was the valedictorian of the 1937 graduating class of Bloomington High School. Irene married Albert Osterhaus on June 18, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington.
Irene was employed for many years at the former Bloomington State Bank. In retirement, she spent many happy hours quilting with friends and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was devoted in her faith and was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington.
Irene is survived by her three children, Carol (Clark) Bohnert of Pewaukee, Dennis (Jean) Osterhaus of Watertown, and Becky Steward of Waukesha; four grandchildren, Tim (Julie) Osterhaus of Wauconda, IL, Katie (Justin) Steward Naper of South Park, PA, Bryan Steward of Vail, CO, and David (Doris) Osterhaus of Menominee Falls; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Esther Breuer of Glen Haven; a brother, Alfred Bohnenkamp of Lansing, IA; and a sister-in-law, Doris Bohnenkamp of Prairie du Chien.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, in 1997; her parents; a sister, Alice (Lawrence) Felder; and a brother, Vulmar Bohnenkamp.
A Mass of Christian of Burial was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington, with Fr. John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Friends called from 12 noon until the time of services Wednesday at the church. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Bloomington is assisting the family.
