Ila Mae Bockhop, age 85, of Belmont, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City. She was born on November 10, 1923, the daughter of Theodore and Leona (Helms) Busch in Belmont. Ila Mae attended Cottage Inn School, graduated from Belmont High School and received a B.S. degree in Home Economics from U. W. Madison. She was united in marriage to Dale Barney Bockhop on October 3, 1946 at Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1970.
Ila Mae taught Home Economics at Cuba City High School and cooked at numerous restaurants and supper clubs. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont, including being involved with the LCW. She was also the former president of the Lafayette County Homemakers, a cook for the SUN program in Lafayette County and the representative of the residence council at Southwest Health Center. Ila Mae enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, reading, playing cards and bowling. She also liked to watch the Milwaukee Brewers. Ila Mae especially loved her family and adored her grandchildren.
Ila Mae is survived by four children: Daryl Butch (Peggy) Bockhop, Belmont, Peggy L. Bockhop, Clearwater, FL, Duane Dewey (Julie) Bockhop, Cuba City and Pam (Ed Buck) Banfield, Scottsdale, AZ; seven grandchildren, Amy (Tom) Sareeram, Angela and Tiffany Bockhop, Jennifer Bockhop, B.J. (Annie) Bockhop, Sarah and Kelsey Banfield; one great-grandson, Gabe Bockhop; her sister, Neva Eileen Place, Belmont; two sisters-in-law, Marie Ruskell, Belmont and Ferne Bockhop, Platteville; a special friend, Dorothy Splinter; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Dalen.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont with Reverend Connie Matye officiating. Burial was held in Belmont Cemetery. Family and friends were welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27 at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.
