Helen M. Ploessl age 86, of Cassville, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. She was born December 31, 1927 the daughter of Joseph and Mary (McWilliams) Mumm. Helen graduated Cassville High School in 1946. She married Donald J. Ploessl on May 3, 1949 at St. Charles Catholic Church. Donald passed away in 1992. Together Donald and Helen farmed in rural Cassville and raised eight children, After Donald’s passing Helen moved to Cassville. She was a member of St Charles Catholic Church. Helen enjoyed playing cards, bingo, reading, and an occasional stop at the casino. She dearly loved time spent with her family, and a competitive game of Tripoli.

Surviving are four sons; Joe (Denise), Steven (Patricia), Larry (Janice), Bill (Lisa) Ploessl; three daughters; Mary Vogt, Deb (Jim Hunter) Hughes, Barb Ploessl, twenty one grandchildren, thirty one great grandchildren, with one on the way, two brothers; Bernie (Pat) and Dave Mumm a sister Leila Bausch, two sister in laws, Mercedes and Eleanor Mumm, and many members of the Ploessl family.

In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded by two children in infancy, a son Jeff Ploessl, two brothers, Bill and Walter Mumm, a sister, Isabelle (Bob) Bausch, a sister-in-law, Helen Mumm, and a brother-in-law, Walter Bausch

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cassville, where a 3:45 p.m. scripture service will be held, and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Helen M. Ploessl Memorial Fund has been established.

We wish to extend our sincere thanks to Orchard Manor Nursing Home for the care our mother received and also to Dr. Runde and the third floor nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center.
