Helen F. Meye, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster. She was born June 3, 1922 the daughter of Theodore L. and Ella (Dammann) Guy. Helen went to country school in rural Davenport, Iowa. On August 17, 1945, she was united in marriage to Albert W. Meye. Before she was married, Helen worked for several years at Davenshires in Davenport. Later, she worked in Cassville for Rapid Die; first on the line, then in the office for many years. Helen and Al moved to Potosi after they got married and spent the next 45 years running a heavy equipment construction business and raising a family. She was involved in many volunteer projects, which she loved: VFW Auxiliary, Grant County Thrift Shop, Meals on Wheels, Grant Regional Hospital Auxillary, activities at Orchard Manor, and church. Helen was a life-long member of Davies Memorial Church in Potosi. She loved to play cards with her great-grandchildren, Bingo at Orchard Manor, and any other activities Orchard Manor had. Music was a passion of hers, but most of all, she loved being around her family and watching each new generation start – the little ones called her “GG” and would run into her open arms. Helen spent her entire life helping, guiding, and loving all the people around her.
She is survived by two daughters: Pam (Larry) Wolf, and Janette (Ralph) Pauley; 7 grandchildren: Eric (Lorna) Wolf, Jim (Jen) Wolf, Phil (Mary) Wolf, Angie (Kent) Cohen, Jason (Nicole White) Swart, Logan (Elle) Swart, and David Pauley; 14 great-grandchildren: Carissa, Tyson, Zachary, Nicole, Erin, Owen, Hanna, Dustin, Allen, Morgan, Mila, Nick, Lucas, Haley; 2 great-great grandchildren: Carter and Aspen; many nieces and nephews, and her very special friend, Shirley.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; two brothers: Robert and Kenneth; sister-in-laws: Theresa Guy, and Vera (Don) Winsor; and three brothers-in-law: Herman, Arthur (Thelma), and Elmer (Fran) Meye.
