Helen A. Buss, age 95, of Belmont , died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Manor Care Health Services in Platteville. She was born on April 24, 1914, the daughter of William and Clara (Gehrke) Popp in Kendall Township, Lafayette Co. Helen was united in marriage to Homer Buss on June 2, 1937 at Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont . He preceded her death on December 3, 2005.
Helen worked at Eds Caf in Platteville for many years. She was a life long member of Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont , liked to play cards and crochet. Helen also would make two afghans for the school fair for many years and donated them to the top two ticket sellers. She especially loved and adored all her family.
Helen is survived by her children: Donald (Judith) Buss, Belmont and Dorothy (George) Calvert, Oconto; seven grandchildren: Sue (Gary) Farrey, Evansville; Jim (Susan) Buss, Madison; Barb (Jeff) Brickl, Lodi; Bill (Shirley) Buss, Platteville; Steve (Sandy) Buss, Cross Plains; Frank (Brenda) Calvert, Oconto and Kathy (Mike) Winkler, Paris, TX ; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, Braden; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Homer; a grandson, Chris Schaaf; her brother, William Popp and her sister, Esther Popp.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont with Reverend Connie Matye officiating. Burial was held in Belmont Cemetery . Family and friends were welcome from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12 at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to hospice nurses Teri Steinhoff and Kim Hartnet and also to Scott Morrissey and Lee Pelton.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred.
