Hazel M. Meoska

Hazel Mae Morovits was born September 29, 1927, at home in Seneca, WI, the daughter of Joe C. and Annie (Heisz) Morovits, the second oldest of seven children. She died peacefully at home on her wedding anniversary February 7, 2025, surrounded by her family.

After high school, Hazel worked at The Old San (Sanitarium) Hospital in Prairie du Chien. During that time she met her future husband, Joe, at a dance, and made many lifelong friends. Hazel and Joe were united in marriage on February 7, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington, WI. 

Hazel was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker who multitasked long before multitasking was a popular idea. She worked alongside Joe doing farm and field work, raised five children, volunteered at St. Mary’s Church and School, and was active in the Catholic Daughters of America (CDA), Christian Mothers and the Legion of Mary. For many years, she and Joe were Blakes Prairie Bombers 4-H club and project leaders who influenced the lives of hundreds of local children. She was a talented seamstress, cook and baker. Quilting was one of her passions and over decades made dozens of beautiful quilts with the help of her quilting friends.

Together with Joe and family, she helped gather equipment, clothes and funds to assist Fr. Paul Fagan and Roads to Life Tanzania, doing missionary work. She and Joe also regularly helped at St. John’s Food Pantry.  She also served as a nursing assistant for thirteen years at Orchard Manor Nursing Home

Hazel is survived by her children, David (Ione), Bagley; Tom (Dolly Jackson), Wonewoc; Janet (Dan) Joyce, Mazomanie; Fr. John, OSB, Collegeville, MN, and Kathy (Noel) Stanton, Madison; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Dyan (Adam) Halverson and children Jerry and Riley; Charles (Brittany) and children Leo and Lucy; Patricia (Brandon) Stoughtenger and children Nolan and Madelyn; Michelle (Tommy) McGlynn and son Jacob; Nicole (Joe) Hechimovich and children Anica and Nela; Dave Joyce and children August, Denver and Shoal; Jenny (Mike) Smith and children Gordon Van Kleek, Lincoln and Arabella; Matt Joyce (Amy Wanek); Lynne Griffith and son Brandon (Katie); Nick Kokoros; Tiffany (Bryan) Schultz and children Ashton and River; brothers Donald (friend Lavonne Swiggum) Morovits and Alan (Gloria) Morovits; step-brother-in-law Jack (Kay) Schmit; and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 65 years, Joe; her parents Joe and Annie; siblings Evelyn and Virgil Scheckel, Harry and Joan, Adeline and Don Stoehr, infant Roy, Mary Rigdon; sisters-in-law Trudice Morovits, and Ernestine (Meoska) Walsh and husband Tom; Dawn Kokoros; and many relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father John Meoska OSB as principal celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 4 – 8 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington; with a Scripture Service at 4:00 p.m. Family and friends may also call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington is assisting the family.

The family wishes to thank the staff of High Point Medical and Grant County Hospice for their compassionate care of Hazel. In lieu of flowers, the family will donate memorials given in Hazel’s name to her favorite charities.
