Hazel M. Walter, age 86, of Potosi, died on Monday, November 24, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 2, 1922 the daughter of Tom and Zella (Cusick) Harris in Hazel Green, WI. Hazel was united in marriage to Harley Walter on January 26, 1946 in Kieler, WI. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother for 62 years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Burton and made quilts with the ladies for many years. In addition to spending time with friends and family, Hazel also loved gardening, tending to her flowers, baking, taking long country walks, ceramics and making comforters for family.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Harley of 62 years; six children: Larry Walter, Boulder City, NV, Dennis (Arleen) Walter, Potosi, Roger Walter, Rewey, Jeannie Droessler, Potosi, Mark (Joyce) Walter, Potosi and Patricia Pete (Lawrence) Baranosky, Edmonton, Alberia Canada; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Helen Walter, Scales Mound, IL, Fern (DuWayne) Scott, Ft. Atkinson and Verna (Meredith) Glasgow, Scales Mound, IL; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dale and Orlin Harris and one granddaughter, Jenny Walter.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Martin Funeral Home in Potosi with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial was held in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends were welcomed on Tuesday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
