Harold W. Rech, age 91, of Lancaster, died on Monday, June 23, 2008, at Southwest Health Center in Platteville. He was born on May 2, 1917, in Lancaster, WI, the son of William and Barbara (Caspers) Rech. In 1940, he married Charlotte Duve. Together they farmed in Grant and Iowa Counties. Charlotte preceded him in death in 1966. In 1973, he married Alice Burns. Harold and Alice moved to Lancaster in 1975. He was employed at the Grant County Courthouse. Alice preceded him in death in 1997. Harold was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing cards with his friends at Zippy's.
He is survived by two daughters: Judith (James) Richardson, Fennimore; and Patricia (Lee) Halverson, Cottage Grove; a stepdaughter, Margaret (Melvin) Kaufman, Lancaster; a sister, Helen Jenkinson, Cameron; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Louise Rech; his brother, Donald (Marian) Rech, and his brother-in-law, Robert Jenkinson.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Thursday. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Harold W. Rech memorial fund has been established.
