Harold J. Funk, age 84, of Lancaster, died Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born on February 26, 1924, in Potosi, the son of Michael and Elizabeth (Krepfle) Funk. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was a lifelong member of the William Pollock VFW Post No. 2344 of Lancaster. Harold married Anita Daumitz and together they farmed for seven years. He later purchased Rollo Knapp
s trucking company and operated his own business for thirty-five years. Harold served as a member of the Lancaster City Council and the Lancaster Housing Authority for many years. Harold was a lifelong member of St. Clement Catholic Church and the Catholic Knights. He delivered meals to the sick and the elderly. Harold was an avid euchre player and a great football fan.
Survivors include his wife, Anita Funk, Lancaster; one son, James (Ellen) Funk, Lancaster; two daughters, Carol (Joe) Chulew, Springfield, VA; Cheryl Funk, Plymouth, MN; five grandchildren: Michele Krupa, Christopher, Paul, Daniel and Jennifer Carl; and eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Lenz.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial with military honors were held in St. Clement Cemetery, South Lancaster Township. Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster served the family.
