Harold F. "Barney" Bausch

Harold F. “Barney” Bausch, age 98, of Monona, Wisconsin, formerly of Lancaster and then Fennimore, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg. He was born August 19, 1922 in Cassville, WI, the son of Frank and Hazel (Martin) Bausch. Barney graduated from Lancaster High School in 1941. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and served his country honorably in France and Germany during World War II as a combat medic for a rifle company in the 409th Infantry, 103rd Division. Barney’s heroic actions on the battlefield during a fierce battle near Rott, France in December 1944 was recognized by his commanding officers and he was awarded a Bronze Star for his bravery. That experience profoundly affected him spiritually and upon returning home, he became an active member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. On September 30, 1950, Barney was united in marriage to Dorothy A. McCulloch at that same church. After raising their large family in Lancaster, Barney and Dorothy relocated to Fennimore, then Monona. In each location, they continued to be active members of the church: Queen of All Saints Parish in Fennimore, and Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monona. Barney was employed as a machinist at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, taking walks, and a good game of Euchre. Barney was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2820 , William Pollock VFW Post #2344 and Richard Burns American Legion #109. He also devoted much of his time during retirement volunteering for various organizations. He dearly loved his family and keeping up with their activities.
Survivors include his loving wife Dorothy, his children: Mark (Barb) Bausch, Annette (Dale) Schaub, Mary (John) Schmit, Barb Bausch, Frank (Jane) Bausch, John (Kate) Bausch, Noreen (Mike) Wolfe, Christine Corden-Bausch, 15 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Gerard and Paul Bausch, two sisters: Fern (Ralph) Weist and Shirley (Norbert) Pink, two brothers: Bernard "Bernie" (Mimi) and Lyle (Frances "Frannie") Bausch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Vernon officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at St. Clement Cemetery, rural Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Homes & Crematory of Lancaster is assisting the family.
