Harley R. Walter, age 87, of Potosi, died on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster. He was born on September 26, 1923, in Waterloo Township, the son of Homer and Florence (Schaal) Walter. On July 26, 1946, Harley was united in marriage to Hazel Harris in Kieler, WI. Harley was employed as a fork lift operator with John Deere for thirty years. He loved cutting wood, farming and gardening. Harley was an avid story teller and always had a joke to share. He was a member of  St. Paul Lutheran Church in Burton. Harley was also a member of the Potosi Lions Club and was a past President.

Survivors include six children: Larry Walter, Boulder City, NV, Dennis (Arleen) Walter, Potosi, Roger (Ann Kemink) Walter, Rewey, Jeannie (Dale Droessler) Droessler, Potosi, Mark (Joyce) Walter, Potosi and Patricia Pete (Lawrence) Baranosky,  Edmonton, Alberta Canada; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother: Howard (Esther) Walter, Dubuque, IA; a sister-in-law, Helen Walter, Scales Mound, IL; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Harley was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel on November 24, 2008; one granddaughter, Jenny Walter; and two brothers, Calvin Walter and Richard (Joyce) Walter.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 10:00 a.m.  Martin Funeral Home in Potosi with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial was held in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends were welcome on Friday, January 21, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Potosi and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
