Harley C. Scherrer

Harley C. Scherrer, age 75, a loving husband and father, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at the Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster, after a long and difficult battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS).

Harley was born on January 21, 1938 in Rock Island, IL to Charles and Meta Scherrer. He married Rosalie A. McDowell on March 14, 1959. Harley graduated from Rock Island High School in 1956. He began his long career as a carpenter with an apprenticeship at Greenleaf Construction. He worked many years as a carpenter in and around the Quad City area. Harley worked for Russell Construction for 16 years as a superintendent, retiring in 2000.

Harley and his wife Rose retired to Bagley, WI, after spending their weekends there for more than 25 years. Harley was an avid outdoorsman, loving most to fish with his best fishing buddy, Rose. He also loved to golf, which he voiced missing the most during his illness. He was a Chicago Bears fan and a closet Green Bay Packers fan. Harley and Rose watched football together, always discussing the plays, players, & coaches.

Harley is lovingly remembered by his wife, Rose; three daughters, Kerri (David) Welch of Holmes Beach, FL, Beth (Joseph) Koberstein of Rock Island, IL, and Christine M. (Brian) Hunecke of Lindenhurst, IL; five grandsons, Matthew, Nathan, David (fiance Molly Klocke), Jordan, and Hans; a granddaughter, Madeline; a sister, Calla Jones of Plymouth, NH; and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Meta.

A private family service was held at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington, followed by a Celebration of Life from 12 to 4 pm on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Luck of the Irish, 150 S. Bagley Ave, Bagley, WI. A private burial will be held at a later date. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
