Harlan E. Reed, age 82, of Cassville, died on Friday, December 25, 2009, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 26, 1927, in Burton, the son of Carson and Marcella (Brinkman) Reed. He attended Dubuque Senior High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany where he met his wife. Harlan was employed with Dubuque Packing Company, retiring in 1981. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 7080. Harlan was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked to watch all sports on the television, especially the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs. Harlan loved spending time with his family and visiting with friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be thoroughly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Reed, Cassville; his sons: Brian Reed, Cassville; Rod (Sharon) Reed, Cassville; his grandchildren: Michael Reed, Platteville; Carrie (Adam) Sutter, Prairie du Chien; his great-grandchildren: Conner and Cayden; an aunt, Eileen Brinkman, Cassville; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a brother, Maurice and a sister-in-law, Charlene Reed.

Funeral services were held on Monday, December 28, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial with military honors was in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends called on Monday, December 28, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank Dubuque Internal Medicine, the Oncology department, Dr. Herman, Tony and nurses, the staff at Finley Hospital, nurses and staff at Orchard Manor and Tracy with Grant County Hospice for all the concern and wonderful care they gave to Harlan.
