Gwendolyn H. Durni

Gwendolyn H. "Gwen" Durni, age 82, of Platteville, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster. She was born on September 7, 1936, in Garnavillo, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Marion Dutka. Gwen graduated from Garnavillo High School. In 1956, she was united in marriage to Leonard Durni. He preceded her in death in October 2007. Gwen was a homemaker and a nanny; she was known as "grandma" to many area children. Gwen also worked at Flex Steel and upholstered sofas. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, collecting birds, crosswords and puzzles. Gwen loved the outdoors and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children: Connie Fessler; Amy Durni; Pete (Nikki) Durni; Pamela (Dave) Kronshage; six grandchildren: Brandon, Nick, Maggie, Bailey, Noralyn, and David; two great-grandchildren: Ethan and Lauren; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by her siblings: Elwood, Calvin, Don, Floyd and Dave Dutka and Bernice Whittle.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Homes & Crematory in Platteville is entrusted with her care.
