Gloria A. Briggs, age 82, of Cottage Grove, formerly of Platteville, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at UW Hospitals and Clinics, Madison. She was born on January 22, 1935, in Platteville, the daughter of Charles F. and Annabelle (Seemeyer) Austin. Gloria graduated from Platteville High School in 1953. She furthered her education at Oskaloosa, Iowa, where she earned a secretarial certificate. Gloria then went to Minneapolis for airline stewardess certification. She later returned to Platteville where she was employed at the Ford Garage. It was there that she met Jerry Cook, whom she married on October 18, 1958, at her home in Platteville. Two daughters were born to this union: Julie and Susan. The couple later moved to Madison where she managed North Glen Apartments. Jerry preceded her in death in 1982. On June 16, 1984, Gloria married Earl Briggs. After their marriage, the couple moved to Poynette where Gloria worked in the school library until her retirement in 1997. Earl preceded her in death on March 17, 2013. After his death, Gloria moved to Cottage Grove. She was an avid reader, enjoyed arts and crafts, traveling, and playing the organ and the piano.
Survivors include her daughters: Julie (Scott) Neice, Allen, TX; Susan (Scott) Lines, Madison, WI; five grandchildren: Alicia, Jennifer, Nick, Stefanie, and Shane; and one great-grandson, Cayden.
In addition to her parents and her husbands, Gloria was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Austin.
Grave side services were held on Friday, April 21, 2017, at 12:00 noon at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville, with Pastor Mike Weiss officiating. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville is entrusted with her services.
