Gladys M. Walker, age 98, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at the Lancaster Care Center. She was born December 29, 1915, in Harrison Township, Grant County, the daughter of William and Florence (Wolf) Weber. Gladys married Wilbur Walker on September 21, 1940, in Independence, Iowa. Wilbur preceded her in death on December 26, 2000. Gladys graduated from Platteville High School and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Gladys taught in a one room rural country grade school for eighteen years, and then for three years at State Graded School at Mount Hope. Gladys later was the fourth grade teacher at Winskill Elementary School in Lancaster from 1966 until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church. Gladys enjoyed fishing, gardening, crocheting, reading, traveling, golfing, and playing cards. She dearly loved her family and keeping up with their activities.
Surviving is her daughter, Karen (Bob) Bellmeyer, her son, John (Diane) Walker, seven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Donna Weber.
In addition to her husband, Wilbur, Gladys was preceded in death by her brother, Clifford Weber and her sister, Carol (Robert) Brouillard.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 14, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends called on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
