Gertrude C. Gertie Leibfried, age 88, of Lancaster, died on Sunday, September 21, 2008, on the farm where she had spent most of her life, following a brief illness. She was born on January 25, 1920, in Potosi Township, the daughter of John and Wilhelmina (Abing) Krepfle. On October 21, 1941, she was united in marriage to Everett C. Leibfried at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. Together they farmed in Ellenboro Township for many years. Gertie enjoyed gardening, puzzle books, and visiting with all of her family and friends on the phone and everyone that just stopped by to visit. She was a lifelong member of St. Clement Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, Gertie was preceded in death by her husband, Everett on November 17, 2000 and two children: Jackie and an infant daughter.
Survivors include her children: Kathy Scott, Des Moines, IA; Rosemary (Jack) Wiedenbeck, Racine; Paul (Sheri) Leibfried, Lancaster; five grandchildren: Mike (Kelly) Wiedenbeck, Angela (Dr. Scott) Soderquist, Amy (Pat) Castell, Tina (Chad) Eubanks, and Todd Scott; great-grandchildren: Sara, Jenna, Tyler, Alexander, Justin, Courtney, Nathan, Ella and a baby girl due any day; two sisters: Marie Jentz, Shullsburg; Mabel (Richard) Hafner, Dubuque, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in St. Andrew Cemetery, Tennyson. Friends called on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster. Friends also called on Thursday, September 25, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. until time of services as the church.
