Gerald R. Laufenberg

Gerald R. Laufenberg, age 74, passed away Sunday March 23, 2014 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born August 23, 1939, son of Leo and Orpha (Klarman) Laufenberg. Gerald graduated from Lancaster High School in 1957. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and served overseas. He married Donna L. Dixon on September 20, 1975 at the Lancaster United Methodist Church. Gerald was employed at Peoples Oil and later worked at Turner Motors for over 30 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, VFW Post # 2344, American Legion Post # 109, and a forty six year member of the Lancaster Fire Department. Gerald enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Surviving is his wife, Donna; a son, Cory (Katie Schwantes); a daughter, Cara (Brad) Drew; four grandchildren, Kyra, Avery, Reese and Jaicee; three sisters, Carloyn (Ron) Howell, Linda Swecker, Susan (Perry) Ahnen; a brother, Larry (Bonnie) Laufenberg; a sister in law, Gale (Gary) Roesch; a brother in law, Dennis (Debbie) Dixon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Orpha Laufenberg; a brother Leo Bobie Laufenberg; and his father and mother in law Bae and Catherine Dixon.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Friends called on Tuesday, March, 25, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster, and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Gerald R. Laufenberg memorial fund has been established.
