Gerald William Mayne, age 86, of Beetown, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 17, 1930, in Burton, the son of Orlo and Lillian (Allbee) Mayne. Gerald entered the United States Marine Corps. in 1952 and served his country for two years stationed in Japan. He met and married Iona E. "Sis" Duncan on November 15, 1954. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Beetown and raised six children. Gerald enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing cards, camping, hunting and fishing. He dearly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Iona; their six children: Marty (Julie) Mayne, McGregor, IA; Melinda (Bruce) Taylor, Mineral Point; Patricia (Tom) Carroll, Lancaster; Ricky (Sue) Mayne, Bloomington; Ronny (Lisa) Mayne, Wisconsin Rapids; Debbie (Walt) Taylor, Lancaster; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one on the way; one brother: Burnell (Grace) Mayne, Beetown; sisters-in-law: Leone Mayne, Cassville; Shirley Duncan, Lancaster; a brother-in-law, Denny (Lillian "Bid") Duncan, Beetown; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Jeff and Elsie Duncan; his siblings: Darlene Mayne, Cecil Mayne and Sylvan Mayne; his brother-in-law, Norman Duncan.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 9, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison Street, in Lancaster, with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Burial with military honors was in Burns Cemetery, Beetown. Family and friends called on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
