George H. Edge, age 85, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Lancaster Care Center, surrounded by his family. He was born September 19, 1928 the son of Francis and Lela (Bennett) Edge. George married Betty J. Novinski September 19, 1950 at the Lancaster United Methodist parsonage. Together they farmed on the Edge family farm in Little Grant Township. George was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Mississippi Valley Lodge #86 and the Lancaster United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Betty, playing cards and fishing.
Surviving is his loving wife of almost 64 years, Betty; two daughters Dianne (Charlie) Rice, Debbie (Garry) Raymond, two daughter in laws; Rhonda (Jim) Kitelinger and Jackie Edge, 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, two sisters; Mercedes Mumm and Velma Wetter.
George was preceded in death by two sons; Roger and Darrell, a granddaughter Kelly Edge, two sisters; Marion Leifer and Aleise (Stanley) Wetter, two brother in laws; William Mumm and Donald Wetter.
Funeral services were held on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, with Pastor Barb Cook officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery. Friends called on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, and on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until time of services. The Schwartz Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Lancaster is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of plants and flowers, a George H. Edge memorial fund has been established.
