Genelda Mae Yoose, age 86, of Potosi, took the journey to Heaven with Jesus on the evening of Sunday, August 17, 2014, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster. She was born on May 27, 1928, in Lancaster, the daughter of Carl and Genevieve (Keene) Irish. Genelda attended Boice Creek Grade School and Lancaster High School. In 1945, she married Calvin Paul Yoose at the Lancaster Presbyterian Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, taught Sunday school, served as Deacon, and was a lifelong active member. Genelda was also a member of the Eastern Star, thirty-two years as a Superintendent at the Grant County Fair, sold Avon for many years, was a 4-H leader, and farmed with her husband and her family all her life. Her favorite things to do in her life was being with her family, gardening, baking, cooking, quilting, and painting. Genelda was well known for her gift of cooking and making sure no one went away hungry. She could make up a full meal in a snap and it was always great. She made many awesome quilts and had a gift of painting beautiful pictures.
In addition to her parents, Genelda was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Yoose, a brother, Lloyd, and a grandson, Cody Yoose.
Survivors include her five children: Steve (Carol) Yoose; Sharon (Dale) Bontreger; Betty (Roger) Allbee; William Bill Yoose, Sandy (Todd) Ehlen; fourteen grandchildren: Cindy, Becky, John, Danny (Kari) Yoose, Amy (Eric) Giese, Tamie (Craig Pash) Patcle, Kimberly (Andrew) Marinelli, Stacy (Jason) Wehausen, Sheila Allbee, Sheena (Al) Reynolds, Ryan (Whitney) Allbee, Cari Ehlen, April (R.J.) Osterhaus, Trevor Ehlen, many several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Katie) Irish; and a brother-in-law, Ivan Yoose.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial was in Hurricane Cemetery, South Lancaster Township. Family and friends called on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Genelda M. Yoose Memorial Fund has been established.
