Gayle Lien Mason, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 18, 2019, at UW Hospital in Madison. She was born on December 28, 1952, in Superior, WI to Jack and Roberta (Wiseman) Lien. She graduated from Superior Senior High School in 1971. Gayle continued her education at UW Stout, completing a bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition in 1975. On June 26, 1976, Gayle was united in marriage to Bernard “Tony” Antony. Gayle and Bernie were married for 23 years, raising two daughters before Bernie passed away in 2000. On May 19, 2007, Gayle remarried Al Mason. She retired from Grant County Aging and Disability Resource Center in 2013. Following retirement, Gayle became an active member of the Grant Regional Health Center Auxiliary Board and volunteered regularly with the hospital.
Gayle was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and daughter. She was forever the rock of her family and had a special gift for making everyone around her feel loved. She taught her daughters the importance of family and unconditional love. Gayle was an amazing grandmother and loved engaging with them through play, baking and crafting. She was an avid sewer and quilter and was always baking treats for everyone. In the summer time, Gayle enjoyed gardening and surrounding her home with beautiful flowers. She loved to travel with family and friends and was always planning her next trip. Gayle enjoyed being involved with 4-H and taking part in the Youth Sewing Expo.
Gayle is survived by her loving husband Al Mason; her children: Jennifer (Ben) Stuart and Stephanie (Ben Felder) Antony; stepdaughters: Julianne Mason and Kristine Mason; grandchildren: Lillian, Jordan, Morgan, Zoe and Bea; Mother-in-Law: Anna Mae Antony; siblings: Lori (Jon) Pernsteiner, Deb Antony, Charlie (Rhonda) Antony, Rose Antony, Lyle (Jodi) Antony, Dean (Renee) Antony, LeRoy Antony, Leonard Antony, Mary Jo (Gary) Hess, Peggy (Jim) Larson, Jerry Warthan, Mary Kay (Phil) Middelkoop, and other siblings; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
In addition to her parents Jack and Roberta, Gayle was preceded in death by her first husband, Bernie; father-in-law, Aloysius Antony; mother-in-law, Kay Mason; brothers-in-law, Allen Antony and Cege Mason; sisters-in-law, Bonita Warthan, Diane Antony, and Laura Antony.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019, from 3-7pm at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S. Madison, in Lancaster, WI. A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of plants and flowers, Gayle expressed that donations be made to Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin and Grant Regional Health Center Auxiliary.
