Galen J. "Whirly Bird" Kruser, age 64, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at his home. He was born on January 27, 1952, the son of Henry and Stella (Brandt) Kruser. Galen graduated from Potosi High School in 1970 and worked on the family farm. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, Galen later moved to Arizona working various jobs. He moved back to Wisconsin and was employed with the barge lines, and most recently with Menards in Platteville. For over 24 years, he was a member of the American Legion Post No. 473 in Potosi. Galen enjoyed hunting and fishing and the annual "Kruser sausage making fest." He took pride in the years that he took care of his mother, Stella, until her passing in 2001. Galen lent a helping hand to anyone in need as he was often heard saying, "from a friend to a friend."
Survivors include his siblings: John, Wayne (Betty), Julius (Janet), Mert, Harvey (Mary Lou), Randy (Carol), Gary (Ruth), Bruce (Donna) Kruser, Elaine (Dave) Groom, Bonnie (Bill) Hammel, Karen (Tom) Van Stedum, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Galen was preceded in death by three brothers: Vernon, Francis (Norma Jean), Daniel (Rosie) Kruser, two sisters-in-law: Darlene and Jane Kruser.
In keeping with Galen's wishes, a private family funeral will be held at a later date. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Potosi is assisting the family.
