Florene J. Jackson Beyer Veech, age 91, of Lancaster, died on Monday, April 2, 2012, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born on July 14, 1920, in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Thomas L. and ORena (Coleman) Jackson. Florene graduated from Louisville Girls High School in Louisville, KY. Florene then worked for Stewarts Dry Goods Department Store in Louisville. On July 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Gordon W. Beyer. She then graduated from Bryant and Stratton Business College with a degree in business. She was employed as the private secretary for Alexander Smith Carpet Company. Gordon was killed in Germany during World War II, on February 6, 1945. She later met William Lyman Veech, and they married on December 14, 1949, at the Beechmont Methodist Church in Louisville, KY. They farmed in Shelbyville and Eastwood, KY. In March of 1954, they purchased a farm in Little York, IN, and resided there for seventeen years. In 1969, Lyman and Florene purchasedtheir farm in Lancaster, WI. They later moved to town in 1987 when they retired. Her husband of 60 years, Lyman, preceded her in death in 2009.
During her life she was a member of the Order of Easter Star No. 512, where she served as Worthy Matron, and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. After moving to Lancaster, Florene was a member of the former Marian Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron, devoted member of Farm Bureau, and has volunteered at Grant Regional Health Center since 1971. She was also very active in the Mary-Martha United Methodist Church Circle, serving as past president and taught Sunday School. She was a Rawleigh Company Salesperson for more than forty years and was very active in various activities. She especially enjoyed reading, spending time with her family and their activities.
She is survived by four children, Sandra Lee Beyer (James) Horner, Noblesville, IN, Susan Lynn Hughes, Arlington, TX, Wm Lyman VeechII, Wisconsin Dells, and Richard (Kim) Veech, Lancaster; eight grandchildren, James (Glenda) Horner II, Suzanne (Mark) Myers, Michael Sean Horner, Nancy Florene & Mary Patterson Hughes, Megan Marie, Brian Thomas & Trevor William Veech; six great grandchildren, Matthew David & Luke James Myers, Megan Elisabeth & Ryan James Horner, Hannah Clementine Cain, and Flora Holland Hughes; and a sister, Mary Lee Jackson (William) Tucker, Louisville, KY.
Funeral Services were held at 11 am on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, with Rev. Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation was from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the Church. There was an Order of the Eastern Star service, Mariam Chapter #15, just prior to the start of the funeral. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.
In lieu of plants and flowers, a Florene J. Veech memorial fund has been established.
