Florence M. Ley

Florence M. Ley, age 87, of Cassville, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born on April 4, 1927, in Waterloo Township, the daughter of Nicholas and Rose (Brinkman) Esser. On October 15, 1946, Florence was united in marriage to Merlin Ley at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Grant County. After moving to Cassville, Florence was employed at Rapid Die for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable garden, walking, watching and feeding the birds, going to Mass, and word search puzzles. Florence was a lifetime member of St. Charles Catholic Church and was a member of the National Council of Catholic Women.

Survivors include her children: Dennis (Sharon) Ley; Doug (Laura) Ley; Peggy (Joe) Schauff; and Bob Ley; six grandchildren: Rod Ley, Dennis (Jen) Ley, Jr., David Ley, Corinne (Mike) Jones, Jennifer Schauff, and Nick Schauff; three great-grandchildren: Katelyn, Daniela and Alison Ley; her siblings: Dolores (Larry) Houghton; Gerry (Ambrose) Mumm; Donnie (Barb) Esser; Darlene (Mike) Schauff; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband in 1989; a sister, Bernice Vogt, and a brother, Charles Esser.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends called on Monday, January 5, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cassville where a 3:45 p.m. rosary was held. Friends also called one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be given to St. Charles Catholic Church or the Cassville Rescue Squad.
