Florence L. Bowen

Florence LaVon (Jerrett) Bowen, age 92, of Mt. Hope, died peacefully after a short battle with cancer on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. She was born on December 19, 1926, in Liberty Township, Stitzer, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Ruth Amy (Hunter) Jerrett. Florence was united in marriage to Lawrence Bowen on August 14, 1943. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Mount Hope. In 1950, they moved to Savanna, IL, where they worked at the Savanna Ordnance Depot during the height of the war and moved back to Mount Hope in 1954. After raising three children, Florence worked at Coil Sales in Lancaster for 23 years, retiring in 1989. Her many activities included gardening, fishing, hunting, dancing, embroidering, cooking, and playing cards. Florence especially enjoyed visiting the State Parks. One memorable trip was to Montana with her friends Marie and Arkie Specht. They also made annual trips to Northern Wisconsin when the trees would turn colors in the fall.
Survivors include her three children: LaVern (Lois) of Lancaster; Karen Fadness of Chippewa Falls; Rose (Rick) Gilbert of Des Moines, IA; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence in 1984; two grandchildren: Billy Fadness in 2009 and Candy Mielke in 2011; two siblings: Iva (Frank) Margan and Mervin Jerrett.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington with Pastor Lance Wetter officiating. Burial will be in Hermitage Cemetery, Mount Hope Township. Family and friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a memorial may be given in Florence's memory to St. Croix Hospice or Mount Hope Park Association.
