Fava Jean (Eastlick) Charles, age 78, Platteville, died on Monday, January 18, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA. Jean was born at her grandmother's home in Platteville, on September 29, 1937, to Purl and Lillie (Stanton) Eastlick. She attended the Cornelia and Poller Country Schools and graduated from Platteville High School in 1955. Jean spent her junior and senior years of high school working and living with the O.E. Gray Family and ironically her first teaching job was second grade at the O.E. Gray School in Platteville, while her husband Fred finished his engineering degree. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville in 1959 and married her high school sweetheart, Fred Charles on June 6, 1959. She taught elementary school in various states; Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Oklahoma. After 20 years of teaching Jean went back to school and pursued her second love of accounting. She retired from Prescott's Supermarkets in West Bend, WI in 1998 and she and Fred moved back home to Platteville after 40 years away. Jean was a member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, Cornelia, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, ran summer day camps, was Clerk of the Council, Secretary/Treasurer of the Mt. Zion Women's Fellowship, and organized the Turkey/Ham Supper for many years. She enjoyed sports, participating in golf and bowling and watching Packers, Badgers and Pioneers. During the 20 years living in Germantown, WI Jean spent many enjoyable evenings listening to her husband and sons sing men's barbershop music. Her family has always been the number one priority in her life.

Jean is survived by: her loving husband of 56 years, Fred; two sons: Brad (Nancy) Charles, Milwaukee; Cary (Mari) Charles, Libertyville, IL; four granddaughters: Julia Charles, Boston, MA; Anne Charles, St. Louis, MO; Patricia Charles, New Berlin; Alyssa Davitz, Caledonia; one grandson: Nathan Charles, Libertyville, IL; one great-granddaughter: Millie Ann Davitz; two brothers: Dale (Cynda) Eastlick, Belmont; Bernie (Karen) Eastlick, West Chester, PA; three sisters: Carolyn Woodward, Platteville; Ruth Eastlick, Platteville; Betty (Robert )Straight, Sacramento, CA; three sisters-in law: Peg Charles, Madison; Betts Winsor, Hot Springs, AR; Carol Nanna (Tom), Schaumburg, IL; one brother-in-law: Tim (Sharon ) Charles, Platteville; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Purl and Lillie Eastlick; in-laws, Fred and Anne Charles; four brothers: Earl, Leroy, Ralph and Lyle; three brothers-in-law: Kenneth Woodward, Dick Charles and Charles Winsor; three sisters-in-law: Ruby Eastlick, Shirley Eastlick, and Jean Steffus-Eastlick; and her grandparents: Ernest and Sadie Stanton and Clarence and Fannie Eastlick.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Platteville with Reverend Zayna Thompson officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, rural Platteville. Family and friends called on Friday, January 22, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Platteville and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
