Evelyn A. Sturmer, age 93, of Lancaster, formerly of the Bloomington/Beetown area, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at the Lancaster Care Center in Lancaster. She was born on May 2, 1917, in Bancroft, IA, the daughter of William and Mary (Schneider) Sudmeier. Evelyn attended school in Bloomington. On July 2, 1940, Evelyn was united in marriage to Alton Lee Sturmer in Bloomington. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Bloomington and Beetown area. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters, Study Club and Card Club, all of Bloomington. In 2004, Evelyn moved to Lancaster. She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. Evelyn enjoyed playing cards and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Ronald (Nancy) Sturmer, Lancaster; Robert (Carole) Sturmer, Bloomington; Kathleen (Rodney) Kalish, Bangor; Marsha Wagner, Darlington; Dave (Peggy) Sturmer, Lancaster; James (D.K.) Sturmer, Crawford, NE; a daughter-in-law, Marge Sturmer, Bloomington; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Lorraine Lee, Platteville; Marie Knutson, Platteville; two sisters-in-law: Betty Sudmeier, Platteville; Mabel Sudmeier, Lancaster; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Alton on November 23, 1977; a son, Gary Pete Sturmer, a son-in-law, Lowell Wagner; her brothers and sisters: Dorothy Horsfall, Lucille Sudmeier, Edwin Sudmeier, Luvern Sudmeier, Rosella Schmitz, William Sudmeier, Lillian Schmitz, LeRoy Sudmeier.

Funeral services were held on Friday, January 21, 2011, at St. Clement Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Family and friends called on Thursday, January 20, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster, where a 3:45 p.m. rosary will be held. Friends also called on Friday, January 21, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
