Eugene O'Neil

Eugene Daniel "Fritz" O'Neil passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 5, 2015, surrounded by his family.

Fritz was born on June 22, 1932, in Cataract, WI, the son of Daniel and Hazel (Heineck) O'Neill. He was united in marriage to Marlene (Peterson) O'Neil on September 16, 1952. During their 43 years of marriage they raised six children.

Fritz enjoyed a long and successful career as a meat cutter at a number of grocery stores until his retirement. He served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard for eight years. He was a proud veteran and a member of the Richard Burns American Legion Post #109.

He was an all-star baseball player "back in the day" and coached little league for a number of years. He loved to play cards, bowl, hunt and fish and to the delight of Marlene, dance.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene, parents Daniel and Hazel; a brother Elmer; and his son Larry (survived by wife Lori).

Fritz is survived by his longtime companion Marie Wiest, his children Steve (Roxanne); Pamela (Jerry) Heins; Donna (Michael) Haberlie; Patrick (Paula); Jennifer (Scott) Simonis; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Reverend John Sasse officiating. Burial with military honors was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster is assisting the family.
