Eric D. Percy Percival, age 26, of Dickeyville, formerly of Potosi, died as the result of an automobile accident on Thursday, October 30, 2008 in Paris Township, Grant County. His final act was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. Eric was born on May 17, 1982 the son of Larry and Katrina (Shaw) Percival in Dubuque, Iowa. He graduated from Potosi High School in 2000 and attended University of Wisconsin Platteville. He was a rural mail carrier and tended bar at Yoders Rockville Bar.
Eric was a member of the 229th National Guard and served 10 months in Iraq. He was a member of the American Legion Post #473 and the Berg Averkamp VFW Post #5276 both of Potosi. Eric was also a member of the TKE Fraternity at UWP and the Hawkeye Motorcycle Club. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching the Dubuque Thunderbirds Hockey Team. Eric also enjoyed snowmobiling and spending time with family and friends at the familys cabin in Cassville.
Eric is survived by his parents, Larry and Katrina Percival, Potosi; his sister, Kelly Percival, Potosi; his grandmother, Wanda Shaw, Potosi; his fianc, Leah Pronschinske, Dickeyville; five uncles and six aunts: Karl (Virginia) Shaw, Clarksville, TN, Kyle (Avis) Shaw, Yuma, AZ, Kurt (Denita) Shaw, Boise, ID, Konrad (Brenda), Puyallup, WA, Kendall (Linda) Shaw, Sun Prairie, WI and Tina Shaw, Lancaster; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Delbert and Ruth Percival; his maternal grandfather, Lyle Shaw and two uncles, Kerry and Kris Shaw.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Bart Timmerman officiating. Burial with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #473 and the Berg Averkamp VFW Post #5276, both of Potosi was held in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi Township. Visitation was held on Monday, November 3, 2008 from 3:00 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 3:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services all at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, an Eric D. Percival memorial fund has been established.
