Emma M. (Dimick) Olson, age 89, of Andover, MN, formerly of Platteville, WI, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020. Emma was born December 29, 1930 on a farm near Fennimore, WI, the daughter of Donald and Addie (Armfield) Middagh. She attended Spring Valley Elementary School and later Fennimore High School. Mid-semester of her sophomore year, the family moved to Platteville. She graduated from PHS with the class of 1948. She was married to Irvin Dimick, a naval veteran for 41 years. Jean A. Dimick was the only child of this union. She worked for a box factory in Dubuque, IA, the Burgess Battery Factory in Platteville before its closing, and as an administrative secretary for the Platteville High School until her retirement in 1994. Emma was a faithful member of the First English Lutheran Church and the Ladies Guild for over 50 years. She was active with the Lutheran Church Women, American Legion Auxiliary, the Platteville Area Educators Association, and the Wisconsin Education Secretaries Association. Emma loved fishing and traveling. In retirement, she enjoyed tending to her garden, senior card parties, and dancing. It was at a dance in 2004, where she met and later married Ordon Olson and became a Minnesota Resident.
Emma is survived by two grandchildren: James (Cheryl) Jamieson and Jessica (Richard) Larsen; three great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Megan, and Cierra Larsen; a sister-in-law, Virginia Dimick; brother-in-law, Oren (Francene) Dimick; nieces and nephews: Donna (Kevin) Freymiller, Samantha Freymiller, Amy Jung, Mark (Debbie) Middagh, Mark (Mary) Dimick, Karla Picton, Janice (Dick) Jewell, and Jim (Peg) Roddick; beloved first cousins: Roy Peterson, Carl Peterson, Betty Burkland, and Dagna Doan; and two special friends, who were more like daughters: Dottie Nodorft U'ren and Betty (Boll) Adams.
In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded by her husbands, Irvin Dimick and Ordon Olson; her daughter, Jean (Dimick) Jamieson; two brothers, Charles and James Middagh; a brother-in-law, Richard Dimick; sister-in-law, Doris (Dimick) Roddick; and first cousins: Alice Meyer, Raymond Peterson, Oscar Peterson, Robert Peterson, and Earl Peterson.
Graveside services with American Legion Auxiliary honors will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Greenwood Cemetery in Platteville with Rev. Naomi Garber and the Leo M. Kane American Legion Post 42 Auxiliary. In lieu of plants, flowers, and other gifts, an Emma M. (Dimick) Olson Memorial Fund has been established with proceeds to be given to First English Lutheran Church in Platteville. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home and Crematory in Platteville is entrusted with her services.
