Elgin J. Hooker, age 90, of Hillsboro, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Heritage Manor in Elroy, WI. He was born on November 13, 1924, in Hillsboro, the son of Edward and Mary (Snorek) Hooker. Elgin attended school in Hillsboro. On October 28, 1947, he was united in marriage to Sylvia A. Kouba at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Elgin was employed with St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital for over thirty years, retiring as a purchasing agent in 1986. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing and hunting squirrels. Elgin was known for his large garden and sharing his produce with the Hillsboro community. He also enjoyed gathering and picking out hickory nuts and black walnuts. Elgin was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his children: Albert Hooker, Hazel Crest, IL; Thomas Hooker, Wausau; Carol (Terrence) Schwartz, Lancaster; a grandson, Anthony Schwartz, Madison; a sister, Marie Hooker, Hillsboro; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Hooker, Hillsboro; other relatives and many friends.

Elgin was preceded in death by an infant son, Duane; his wife, Sylvia in 2003; his brothers and sister: Marvin (Agnes) Hooker; Bessie (Ernest) Wopat; William Hooker in infancy; Donald (Marie) Hooker; Edward Hooker; and a daughter-in-law, Denise Hooker.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hillsboro with Father Donald Bauer officiating. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Union Township. Family and friends called on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, an Elgin J. Hooker Memorial Fund has been established. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster is serving the family.
