 Elaine Anna Reuter, age 85, of Lancaster, died suddenly on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster. She was born on February 6, 1923, in Potosi, the daughter of Roy and Esther (Koeller)  McKelvey. On May 10, 1948, Elaine married Irvin Reuter at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tennyson. She worked as a bookkeeper for Bailey Oil Company in Lancaster before marrying and raising her family. She also did assessing bookwork for S. Lancaster Township for twenty-eight years. Irvin and Elaine lived most of their married life on the Becher farm south of Lancaster until two years ago, when they moved into Lancaster. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers and playing games on her computer. Most of all, she loved the visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Irvin, Lancaster; her seven children: Steve Reuter, Milwaukee; Gary (Barb Schneider) Reuter, Lancaster; Kay (Dave) Krohn, Madison; Sue (Steve) Devine, Wisconsin Rapids; Dave (Deb Now) Reuter, Lancaster; Alan (Jan) Reuter, Yankton, SD; Marianne (Kevin) Klais, Fennimore; twelve grandchildren: Scott (Katie) Reuter and Angela Reuter all of Lancaster; Jen (Travis) Higgins, Weston; Gina (Jason) Caldwell, Eau Claire; Matthew Reuter, Salt Lake City, UT; Andrew (Abby Johnson) Reuter, Platteville; Michael and Katherine Krohn, both of Madison; Bethany, Marissa, Saralyn, and Trenten Klais, all of Fennimore; four great-grandchildren: Lexie, Julia, and Jacob Higgins, Weston and Austin Reuter, Lancaster; her brother: Donald (Mary) McKelvey, Lancaster; brothers and sisters-in-law: John Stuer, Dubuque, IA; Eileen Reuter, Potosi; Ruth (Don) Cox, Dubuque, IA; Don Reuter, Apache Junction, AZ; Donna Mae Reuter, Dickeyville; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Stuer, a brother-in-law, Francis Reuter, and a sister-in-law, Bernadette Reuter.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends called on Friday, October 3, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home, Lancaster. Friends also called on Saturday, October 4, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
