Elaine Elizabeth (Brown) Heiar, age 90, formerly of Bloomington, Wisconsin, died Monday, January 22, 2018. She was born October 17, 1927, in Woodman, WI to Ed and Harriet (Hodgson) Brown. She spent her youth in Woodman, Boscobel, and Wauzeka. She graduated from Wauzeka High School in 1945. On August 31, 1948, she married Robert A. Heiar at St. Mark’s Catholic Church Rectory in Edgewood, IA. They lived in the Wauzeka area and moved to Bloomington in 1957.
Elaine loved music and dancing her entire life. She sang in many churches and choirs, tap danced, and taught tap dancing. She worked for people in their homes and waited on tables at places where Bob played accordion for dances. She was a teacher’s assistant at the Bloomington public school in the 1970s. She and Bob loved to go to dances when he wasn’t playing accordion. Elaine loved to follow her children in their 4-H activities, high school forensics, and sports events, as well as their school, collegiate, and amateur and professional music events. She and Bob loved to play cards and belonged to several card clubs. They were active members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington.
Elaine and Bob loved to travel to visit their children, and travel with friends to fish in Canada. They spent their last few years together traveling to Alaska, and each winter spent 3-4 months in southern Texas. Elaine lived her final years in Bluff Haven and Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien.
Elaine is survived by her children: Bill (Brenda), Round Rock, TX; Jim (Diane), Richland Center, WI; Greg (Vickie), Berlin, WI; and Judy (Rocky) Reuter, Westerville, OH; daughter-in-law Margie, Murfreesboro, TN; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her sister Bev Jenkins, Lynn Haven, FL; and sister-in-law Mary Heiar, Waunakee, WI; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, eldest son David, parents, step-mother, a great-grandchild, and her siblings Allan, Dorothy, and Charolette.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 26, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington at 1:00 p.m. with Father John Meinholz and Msgr. Donn Heiar officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 – 1:00 at the church with burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers/plants, contributions will be accepted by the family in care of Jim Heiar. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, Bloomington is serving the family.
