Eileen F. Cadwell, age 76, of Lancaster, died on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. She was born on April 20, 1934, in South Dakota, the daughter of Harry and Edna Gotheridge. As an infant, her mother died; she was adopted by George and Lima (Taylor) Lefler of Platteville. Eileen graduated with the last class from Rewey High School in 1951. In 1953, she was united in marriage to Jerry Steffens. In 1968, the couple moved to Liberty Ridge, North Lancaster Township, where they operated a Grade A dairy farm. She was a member of the Stitzer United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school director for many years and assisted with the Christmas programs. Eileen was also a member and past president of the Christian Womens Club in Lancaster. On August 2, 1992, Eileen married Frank Cadwell who preceded her in death in 2001. She dearly loved her children and grand-babies and keeping up with their activities.
Survivors include her children: Deb Steffens, Lancaster; Mike (Deb) Steffens, Lamoore, CA; Jeff (Joanne) Steffens, W. St. Paul, MN; six grandchildren: Nathanial, Stephanie (David) House, Micheal Jr., Matthew, Benjamin, and Kirby Sue; her sisters: Goldie Patterson, Mildred Denison, Phoebe Burney, Edna Parent, and Adelia Price.
In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Lydia Lester, Ernest Gotheridge, Buster Gotheridge, Charles Gotheridge, Rosie Case, and an infant granddaughter, Georgie Danielle Steffens.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Stitzer United Methodist Church with Pastor John Oliver officiating followed by a time of fellowship. Private family burial will be at a later date. In lieu of plants and flowers, an Eileen F. Cadwell memorial fund has been established.
