Edward J. Ed Wiezorek, Jr., age 71, of Potosi, died on Friday, March 18, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 22, 1939, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Edward and Virginia (Leik) Wiezorek, Sr. Ed attended Holy Ghost Grade School and graduated from Loras Academy. He was employed with John Deere for thirty-one years as a tool and die maker. Ed also worked at the Dubuque Pack part-time. On October 20, 1984, Ed was united in marriage to Pauline Stohlmeyer at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson. Ed truly cherished the time spent with his family, especially his two sons, who were the pride of his seventy-one years. He was very active within the Potosi community. Ed was the president and active member of the Potosi Tennyson Lions Club since 1998, the treasurer of the Potosi Township for four years, served on the Sts. Andrew-Thomas Parish Council and the Finance Committee and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6480. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 473 of Potosi. Ed was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, and walk in the woods, especially with his boys. Ed also loved buying, restoring and selling antiques. He enjoyed going to garage sales, looking for the hidden and unknown treasures in other peoples junk. He loved spending time at his office enjoying the visits from his friends. Ed enjoyed the Sunday dinner gatherings that were shared with his family and his uncle, Ron. He also enjoyed reading and bird watching.

Wiezorek, III, Potosi; Christian Wiezorek, Asbury; his sister and brother: Victoria (Don) Avenarius, Dubuque, IA; Jan Wiezorek, Chicago, IL; three granddaughters: Heather (Nate) Peterson, Tonya (Jesse Richards) Abing, Emily Wiezorek; three great-grandchildren: Cayden and Jazlynne Peterson and Cailee Richards; his aunts and uncle: Ruth Ann (Dale) Dolash, Marshalltown, IA; Elaine White, Galena, IL; Ron Leik, Dubuque, IA; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Richard Powers, Madison; Henry (Celine) Stohlmeyer and Joseph Stohlmeyer, all of Potosi; Michael (Betty) Stohlmeyer, East Moline, IL; Harold (Mary Pat) Stohlmeyer, Lancaster; Eva (Tom) Lyons, Potosi; Paul (Sandy) Stohlmeyer, Dubuque, IA; Bill (Mary Ellen) Stohlmeyer, Blue Grass, IA; Mary (Bob) Durst, Appleton; twenty-three nieces and nephews and many friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, one niece, Kim Avenarius, and a sister-in-law, Betty Powers.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial with military honors was in St. Andrew Cemetery, Tennyson. Family and friends called on Monday, March 21, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson where a 3:00 p.m. parish scripture service will be held. Friends also called on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, an Edward J. Wiezorek, Jr. memorial fund has been established. Martin Funeral Home in Potosi is assisting the family.
The family wishes to thank Dr. John Whalen and his nursing staff at Tri-State Dialysis who truly are angels of mercy and love. Also to Jerry and Elaine Uppena and Tonya Abing who made it possible to keep Ed in his home these last months.
