Edith E. Russell, age 92 passed away Monday July 21, 2014 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born in Liberty Township, near the Coon Hollow area, on November 28, 1921 the daughter of Leo and Elsie (Wenzel) Fritz. Edith attended Becker grade school, and was confirmed in St. Pauls United Church of Christ at Liberty Ridge. She married Clinton G. Russell on March 15, 1938, in Lancaster. Together they farmed in the Burton area of Waterloo Township where Edith milked cows and worked the fields. She took great pride in the beauty of her home, yard, flower and vegetable gardens. Edith enjoyed sharing her bountiful garden, homemade biscuits and pies with her family.
Surviving is her daughter Arlene (Norbert) Wieland, two sons-in-law, Udell Ames and Dennis Stluka, eight grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, fifteen great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Wilma Russell, two sisters-in-law, Rosella and Connie Fritz, many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Clinton, Edith is preceded in death by her daughters Delores Toddy Ames and Bonnie Stluka, her son Larry; her brothers, Walter (Evelyn), Douglas, Donald (Jeanette), Curtis (Darlene), and Eldon Fritz, her sister Lorraine Pagenkopf, and a brother in law Fred Russell.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster, with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Friday July 25, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
