Edith E. Long, age 98, of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Bagley, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. She was born June 12, 1909 in Patch Grove Township, WI, the daughter of Frank and Elta (Pendleton) Ellis. Edith graduated from Patch Grove High School. On January 17, 1927, she married William Long in Dubuque, IA. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1951. Edith served as the treasurer for the Town of Wyalusing for 22 years. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and watching hummingbirds. Edith was a wonderful mother and great grandmother and dearly loved her family. Everyone enjoyed Sunday dinners at Grandmas.
She is survived by four children: Donna (Richard) Kaufman, Prairie du Chien; Dorothy Lester, Dubuque, IA; James Long, Bagley; and John (Carol) Long, Potosi; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one sister, Florence Kozelka, Prairie du Chien; a daughter-in-law, Madonna Long, Prairie du Chien; a son-in-law, Charles Enke, Prairie du Chien; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Donald Long; two daughters: Irene Enke and Darlene Long; five brothers: Burr, Herbert, Donald, Clifford, and Oscar Ellis; and her sister, Frances Pankoff.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial was in Union Nagle Cemetery, Patch Grove Township. Friends called on Saturday, March 22, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
