Duane J. Benoy, age 85, died on March 7, 2012, at his residence. He was born on June 10, 1926, the son of Joe and Grace (Morrow) Benoy, in Grant County. He farmed with his father until he was called to service. Duane served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On May 10, 1977, Duane was united in marriage to Betty Hamilton. Together they farmed in Patch Grove Township until 2006. He drove school bus for the West Grant School District for twenty-six years and for Warco Transportation for several years before he retired.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; four step-sons: Randy (Michelle), Larry (friend Julie), Scott (Donna), and Pat (Janita Kleinow) Hamilton; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Harold Meyers; and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Duane was preceded in death by a step-son, Robert Hamilton; a step-grandson, J.R. Hamilton; and a sister, Lucille Meyers.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 12, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bagley United Methodist Church with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster at a later date. Family and friends called on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington is assisting the family.
