Dorothy S. Schwantes

Dorothy S. Schwantes, age 90, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born August 7, 1931, the daughter of Earl and Maleta "Did" (Potter) Irish. Dorothy graduated from Lancaster High School. On January 7, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage to Mark E. Schwantes. She was employed as a secretary at Becker & Tuckwood. Dorothy became a stay- at -home mom, which she preferred, to care for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the E & R Church in Lancaster, where she taught Sunday school. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, baking, bird watching and fishing. She dearly loved her family and taking care of each and every one of them. Dorothy will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving is her daughter-in-law, Ruth Schwantes; nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, two sisters, Joyce Cross, and Donna Long, nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Mark; a son Garnett; a daughter, Sheila (Gary) Buss; and two brothers-in-law, Bob Cross and Larry Long.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster. Burial will be in the Boice Creek Cemetery, Potosi Township. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Dorothy Schwantes memorial fund has been established.
