Dorothy M. Laugesen, age 94, of Potosi, died on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at the Lancaster Care Center. She was bornon December 13, 1916, in Waterloo Township, the daughter of Harry and Ida (Reed) Stoney. Dorothy attended Wamsley School. On February 11, 1937, she was united in marriage to Charles E. Laugesen in Dubuque, IA. After their marriage, Dorothy raised their family in Burton. For a short time, they relocated to Madison and Kenosha, then back to Burton. Dorothy was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Burton, where she also taught Sunday school. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking and helping others. Dorothy would often leave pieces of pie for the mailman. She was a 4-H leader and taught children to sew. Dorothy especially enjoyed spending time with her family and taking day trips with Cathy Nix. She also appreciated her handymen, Larry and Kevin, who assisted her with various projects.
Survivors include her four children: Patricia (Art) Altergott, Las Vegas, NV; Ronald (Sally) Laugesen, Los Gatos, CA; Jerome (Beverly) Laugesen, Mt. Hope; Claudia (Gary) Duval, Green Bay; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Laugesen, Dubuque, IA; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Hilma Donaldson and Hilda Novinski, both of Lancaster; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, a son, Dennis, two brothers, Laverne and Dale Stoney; and a sister, Violet Peak.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 24, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial was on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Sunday, October 23, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home on Monday.
