Dorothy Lou Schaal

Dorothy Lou Schaal, age 74, of Potosi, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a suffering battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born August 6, 1933 in Potosi, the daughter of Louis and Irene (Leppla) Gabel. She married Norman Crane Schaal on December 27, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Lancaster. Together they lived in rural Potosi for 55 years. Dorothy worked at Friedmans Supper Club of Potosi and the Burton elections for several years. She enjoyed being at her sons flower shop in Potosi; making floral arrangements and waiting on and visiting with the customers. Dorothy also enjoyed going on her Sunday morning breakfast trips with her husband, Norman, and their best friends, Veryl and Norma. She loved going every Thursday on her shopping trips with her very good friend, Elaine. She enjoyed doing ceramics, reading a good book, watching Wheel of Fortune, feeding and watching her hummingbirds, and loved to go dancing. Dorothy also enjoyed going to the garage sales up north with her husband, son, and daughter-in-law. Her greatest passion was being with her husband, sons, and grandsons. She lived her life to the fullest and her door was always open. She enjoyed everyones company.

She is survived by her husband, Norman Crane Schaal, Potosi; two sons: Rick (Jackie) Schaal, Durand; and Steve (Kari) Schaal, Cassville; four grandsons: Alston, Logan, Gabel, and Skyler; all of Cassville; three step-grandsons: Eric, and Nathan Hopper, Beloit; and Craig (Lori) Hopper, Hurdle Mills, NC; and one step-great-grandson, Vince Hopper, Hurdle Mills, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and six brothers.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Martin Funeral Home in Potosi with Teri Hanson officiating. Burial was in Cassville Cemetery, Cassville Township. Visitation was held on Thursday, February 28 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and also on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services all at the funeral home.
