Dorothy L. Walker, age 92, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. Dorothy was born August 16, 1918 in Ellenboro Township; the daughter of Ulysess and Augusta (Rossow) Boyd. On January 3, 1942, she married Fred O. Ready in Lancaster. She spent most of her life in the Lancaster area; though she did live for 20 years in Virginia. She later married Arthur Walker. Dorothy liked to sing, read, bake and travel. Dorothy and her sister Mildred loved to sing and performed at the Grantland Theater, the Reed Opera House, and a number of one-room school houses in the Lancaster area. They won a WLS Radio Station Amateur Talent contest in 1937 and were invited to sing at the National Barn Dance and the Grand Old Opry amateur night in Chicago.
She is survived by her daughter Dorene (Robert) Boardman of Clayton, North Carolina; and son, Walton (Joyce) Ready of Roscoe, Illinois. She is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: brother, Harry Boyd; and sisters, Theresa Boyd, Elva Haines, and Mildred Wolf.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Family and friends called on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
