Dorothy I. Harasha, age 96, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at the Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster. She was born on July 16, 1918, in Lancaster, the daughter of William and Essie (Edward) Garthwaite. After graduating from Lancaster High School, Dorothy was employed at the Grant County Court House with the Agricultural Program. On August 3, 1939, she was united in marriage to Ralph Harasha. After their marriage they lived on the family farm for many years. Ralph preceded her in death in 1978. Dorothy enjoyed many family events across the United States.
Survivors include six children: John (Carleen) Harasha, WI; Tom (Lee) Harasha, AZ; Steve (Bob Cornell) Harasha, NJ; Jim (Rita) Harasha, WI; Mary Ann Behncke, CA; Jill (Roger) Wadlund, NJ; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Roger Owen, CA; other close relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Owen; a grandson, Travis Harasha; two sisters, Helen (Paul) Jamison and Maxine (Otto) Schurman; a brother, Bill (Phyllis) Garthwaite and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Reverend John Sasse officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be offered for masses in memory of Dorothy and/or to the Alzheimer/Dementia Society. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster is assisting the family.
