Dorothy I. Cooley, age 92, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster. She was born on July 3, 1921, the daughter of Henry and Wealthy (Retallick) Robinson. The oldest of ten children, she spent her life in Grant County. After leaving grade school at age thirteen, Dorothy worked as a household helper and babysitter for various families. On May 16, 1939, she was united in marriage to Stanley Cooley at the Methodist Parsonage in Lancaster. Two children were born to this union: Stephen and Evelyn. Together, they spent their life farming until selling the farm and moving to Lancaster. Dorothy was a member of the Lancaster Art Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn (Delbert) Walker; daughter-in-law, Sharon Cooley; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters: Gladys Esser; Lila Shaben; Verna Muller; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; son, Stephen; two sisters: Shirley Mink and Hazel Esser; four brothers: Lloyd, Robert, Allen Pete, and Herbert Robinson.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Friday, February 14, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
