MONONA - Dorothy “Dot” Bausch, age 98, of Monona, Wisconsin, formerly of Lancaster and then Fennimore, passed away peacefully Monday, December 23, 2024, at Heritage Senior Living in Monona. She was born October 17,1926, in Waukesha, WI, the eldest daughter of Alexander and Viola McCulloch. Dot graduated from Waukesha High School in 1944. She attended the prestigious Layton School of Art in Milwaukee from1944-46. In 1946, Dorothy moved to Lancaster with her family after her father became the manager for the Lancaster Train Depot. Shortly after moving to Lancaster Dorothy met Harold “Barney” Bausch and they were united in marriage on September 30, 1950, in the St. Clement Catholic Church. While raising 10 children, Dorothy embarked on a successful career in Art. She was a member of the Lancaster Art Club, the Grant County Regional Artists Association and the Madison Art Guild. Dorothy exhibited throughout the state of Wisconsin and received many awards for her work. Her most coveted achievement was receiving the John Steuart Curry Award by the Wisconsin Regional Artists Association in 1999.
Dorothy and Barney relocated to Fennimore, then Monona in the latter part of their lives. In each location, they continued to be active members of the church: Queen of All Saints Parish in Fennimore and Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monona. Dorothy continued to remain active in the art world into her 80s. She recently was honored for her art achievements with a 3-month showing at the Lancaster Library. She dearly loved her family and keeping up with their activities. To her family and friends, Dorothy will always be remembered for her beautiful laugh and her self-deprecating humor.
Survivors include: her sister, Kathleen “Katie” (Ray) Brandemuehl; her children: Mark (Barb) Bausch, Annette (Dale) Schaub, Mary (John) Schmit, Barb Bausch, Frank (Janice Johnson) Bausch, John (Kate) Bausch, Noreen (Mike) Wolfe, Christine Corden-Bausch; 14 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold “Barney” Bausch; two sons: Gerard and Paul Bausch; one brother, John (Enid) McCulloch; one sister, Carol Jean “CJ” (Fred) Barrett; and one grandson, Jeremy Schaub.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father Mark Miller officiating. Burial will be held at St. Clement Cemetery, rural Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Homes & Crematory of Lancaster is assisting the family.
