Doris J. Sass, age 79, of Bloomington died Friday, May 22, 2009 at her home. She was born on April 26, 1930, in Bloomington, the daughter of Roy and Ada (Harris) Martin. Doris was united in marriage to James H. Sass on December 21, 1952 at Bloomington United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Bloomington United Methodist Church and Central United Methodist Church in Milwaukee. Doris loved her family and her church. She also loved gardening, bird watching, music, and singing with the Bell Canto Choir.
Doris is survived by her husband, Jim, Bloomington; two daughters: Linda (Tom) Sander, Excelsior, MN and Gail (David) Hasenbein, Burlington, WI; two grandchildren: Jessica and Matthew Hasenbein; two brothers: Kenneth (Arv) Martin, Bagley and Richard Bud (Pat) Martin, Bloomington; a sister-in-law, LaVonne Lew Martin, Shannon, IL; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Diane and her brother, Keith Martin.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Bloomington United Methodist Church with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial was held in Lumpkin Cemetery, Bloomington Township. Friends called on Monday, May 25 from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church.
